Considering its lighter structure, the Rufete extracts the virtues of a grape constantly present in the old vines of the Douro, and therefore creates a very exotic wine with a very fresh style.
Grape Varieties: Rufete
Tasting Notes: The Rufete grape reveals nobility for its ability to age and produces quite exotic reds. Very round, soft in tannins, medium-bodied but very elegant with aromas of red and black berries. The wines look light when compared to classic Douros, but in fact have a lot of personality, and hold on very well on the finish. The low temperature of service, unlike other reds, emphasises the fruit character of Rufete and makes it very pleasant to drink.
Winemaking: A very fine and elegant wine made 100% with the grape Rufete, which we ferment in two small stainless steel tanks, partially stemmed and partially de-stemmed. These two different micro- vinifications allow us to extract on one side the greenish and rustic side to Rufete, while on the other hand a more elegant and fruity style. The wine then ages in used French oak barriques to ensure a right balance between oak and the wine’s varietal character.
Food Pairing: Partridge, Grilled Sardines, Roasted Duck, Tuna Steak. Best served at 16ºC. Drink now or cellar for 10 years.
Winemaker: Jorge Moreira
