Quinta da Vacariça only gives the "Garrafeira" designation to its best berry wines and exceptional vintages. Coming from vineyards cultivated with traditional techniques: no herbicides. Fermented in small mills, without stemming with its own natural yeasts. Aged in oak barrels for 18 months. Bottled without filtering, this natural wine is subject to deposit.
This Garrafeira 2009 comes from two hectares of vineyards of the emblematic Baga variety, planted on a clay-limestone slope exposed to the northeast, in Tamengos in the Cardosas terroir and from a century-old vineyard with a variety of native varieties. BAGA Friends.
Grape Varieties: Baga
Tasting Notes: "Rich aroma, grape variety (Baga) evident in a hard but seductive classic profile, with a note of dark chocolate. Taste very concentrated, evident but tasty tannins. Great presence, good acidity, imposing and full of terroir". Nuno Garcia, Wine Magazine
Vinification: Hand harvest on September 30th in several passes, with perfect sanitary condition. The grapes are vinified in open mills without de-stemming. Natural, without added sugar, this wine is made with its own yeast. Wine is mainly made in the vineyard. In the cellar, the work only allows us to magnify the profile of the thousandth. After aging for 18 months in 3,000L oak barrels, the wine is bottled without being fined or filtered.
Consumption: This Garrafeira 2011 tonel 18 is already ready but could improve over 10 years. To fully appreciate its qualities, Garrafeira 2011 tonel 18 should be served at 16ºC in wide glasses.
