Legado is a tribute by Fernando Guedes and his team to the top potential of the Douro, a homage to Sogrape's roots.
Grape Varieties: Encruzado
Tasting Notes: Deep ruby in colour. Intense, complex aroma, with lively red fruits, hints of resin and mint, some spice such as liquorice, pepper and ginger, stony, with subtle, very well integrated wood. Full-bodied, with firm tannins, bright acidity, clear red fruit notes, peppery spice and an elegant, harmonious finish.
Winemaking: The grapes come from a century-old vineyard, Quinta do Caêdo. They were picked by hand, selected both in the vineyard and on the sorting belt as they came into the winery. After destemming and gentle crushing, the grapes were transferred to stainless steel tanks for the alcoholic fermentation. The maceration was long and gentle, at controlled temperature, with the aim of extracting the compounds that express the terroir of the vineyard.
Maturation: Aged in French oak barrels of 225 litres for about 30 months. During this period, the wine is tasted and analysed a great many times to check its development. In order to preserve its high quality, it is given only a very light filtration before bottling.
Store: It is already good to drink and should remain in fine condition for around 20 to 25 years.
Serve: If it is kept for a few years, a natural sediment will form in the bottle. The wine should then be decanted to be enjoyed at its best. This is a marvellous wine that will benefit from being opened a while before drinking. Serve at between 16ºC-18ºC.
Enjoy: Its elegant and complex profile is ideally suited to red meats, game and cheese. Suitable for Vegetarians. Suitable for Vegans. Without gluten.
Integrated Production: The grapes used in this wine were produced in accordance with the Integrated Production of Sustainable Agriculture guidelines, as defined by the International Organization for the Biological Fight against Harmful Organisms (OILB/IOBC). Strict compliance with these practices is certified by an independent organization recognized by the Portuguese State.
