The grapes that gave rise to this wine come from two different plots of Sousão from the Quinta de S. José vineyard, located in Cima Corgo, very close to the Douro River, with an altitude ranging from 150 to 300 meters. North exposure and very shale soil.
Grape Varieties: 100% Sousão
Tasting Note: Deep purple color, very complex and distinct aromas where initially the fruity character, characteristic of the variety, predominates, later noticing some spicy notes from the wood. In the mouth it shows fruit, complexity, great balance and harmony with high-level tannins that give it a long aftertaste.
Vinification and Ageing: Grapes harvested by hand, into 25Kg boxes, at their ideal maturation point, with the intention that they present a vigorous maturation, leading to higher aromatic and polyphenolic concentrations. After gentle crushing and total destemming, the grapes are fermented in stainless steel vats and in a press, thus allowing the quality constituents present in the skins of the very ripe grapes to pass smoothly into the wine. After malolactic fermentation, the wine aged in new and used 400 liter French oak barrels for approximately 14 months.
How to Serve: Serve at a temperature between 14 and 16ºC.
Conservation: In a dry place with a constant and cool temperature. The bottle must be stored in a horizontal position.
Winemaker: João Brito e Cunha
