The previous COLINAS RESERVA TINTO 2012 has now changed its name to CALCARIO3 DO PRINCIPAL RESERVA TINTO 2012.
The property's 61 hectares are spread over the fabulous clay-limestone soils that dominatethe gentle hills of this property. The entire vineyard is dry farmed. It is here that, with a base ofour most iconic red wine (Principal) and our use of gravity flow winemaking that we are able toproduce a red wine that reflects the nature of the limestone-rich soils: with its expressive fruit,vibrant acidity, minerality and rich texture.
Location: S. Lourenço do Bairro, Bairrada, Portugal.
Terroir: Atlantic influenced climate, protected by the Caramulo and Bussaco Hills. Vineyards planted at high density (5555 feet per hectare) on gentle hills of clay-limestone soils, in the region's famous limestone patch. Completely dry farmed vineyards.
Grape Varieties: Touriga Nacional (50%), Cabernet Sauvignon (20%), Merlot (30%).
Vinification: All grapes are harvested manually and then placed onto a selectiontray where only the best bunches will enter the winery. Destemmingand crushing follow, where the grapes are then transferred totemperature-controlled stainless steel vats and alcoholic andmalolactic fermentation takes place. Maceration lasts forapproximately 20 days, using the delestage technique. The wine isthen aged for 24 to 30 months in 225 litre French oak barrels (newand used). The final blend ages for another 6 years in the bottlebefore being released to the market.
Tasting Notes: Ruby with opaque center. Aromas of dark woodland fruit, cedar,leather, graphite. Full-bodied, with firm tannins, but very polished.Vibrant acidity that remains throughout. Great length, mouth feel anda mineral finish.
Serving: Serve between 16-18Cº. For maximum enjoyment, decant 30 minutes before serving.
Storage: In a cool place (12-14 Cº) away from direct sunlight and without bigfluctuations in temperature.
Ageing Hability: The wine is perfect to drink, but will age beautifully for a further 10-20 years.
Pairing: Excellent to accompany roast meat or fish, lamb, roast beef and aged meats.
