Grape Varieties: Touriga Nacional and Old Vines Blend.
Viticultural Year: The 2022 viticultural year in Douro was marked by extreme drought and heat, with rainfall well below average and an accelerated ripening cycle. This resulted in reduced production, but in grapes of great concentration and exceptional quality, favoring intense wines with good aging potential.
Harvest: Family harvest, where each bunch of grapes was hand-picked on the date we consider the grapes to have reached their maximum potential.
Winemaking and Ageing: The grapes are carefully selected and partially crushed. The wine is foot-trodden for 3 days after being bottled in the granite press, where fermentation begins, and is then transferred to stainless steel vats. After alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation follows, and once the wine is ready, it ages for 16 months in French oak barrels until approximately one month before bottling.
In Tasting: Ferronha's has an intense ruby color with a garnet red halo. The aroma is marked by ripe fruit, surrounded by floral and tobacco notes. When tasted, it presents an elegant and concentrated structure, revealing itself to be juicy on the palate, balanced and fresh, with a long and persistent finish.
At the Table: This is a very gastronomic wine, it harmonizes perfectly with typical traditional Portuguese dishes, and its balanced profile can also be enjoyed on its own. It is recommended to serve at a temperature between 16º and 18ºC.
Winemaker: Luis Alexandre Gonçalves Ferronha
