This wine is the result of an attempt to recreate the Pelada 2003, in which, at the time, it was intended to demonstrate the elegant and balanced character of Dão wines. A part of the lot comes from the Alto and Meio plots, from the old vineyard (70 years old) of Quinta da Pellada, where there is a great genetic heritage, with no predominance of any variety. The other part of the lot comes from Touriga Nacional from plot 5 of Quinta da Pellada
Grape Varieties: 100% Field Blend Vinha Velha. 48 different varieties were identified. Vineyards with 71 years located at an altitude of 550m.
Soil: Granitic with lines of clay and sand.
Winemaking: 2018 was a cool year until August, with the coolest July in the history of the 21st century. The maturation of the vine had a delay of about 3 weeks compared to 2017. In the first days of August there was a strong rise in temperature: August 4th was the hottest day of the 21st century (to date), with the ripening of the grapes proceeded slowly during the month of September. Due to the imposed water stress, the plants produced musts with low alcohol content and good phenolic maturation, with a lot of complexity and minerality. The grapes were vinified respecting all their nature. Spontaneous fermentation, obviously with indigenous yeasts, took place in a stainless steel mill, followed by a 36-month stage in three 400L oak casks, second/third use. Direct bottling by gravity.
