Quinta de Val da Figueira is located on the right bank of the Douro, close to Pinhão, in the heart of the Douro Demarcated Region. The property appears on Baron Forrester's famous map and dates back to the mid-18th century. The Quinta's main vineyard area has been in the family of the current owners for three generations, with some adjacent vineyards having been owned for five generations. The average annual production is about 110 kites,
Grape Varieties: 75% Vinhas Velhas, 25% Touriga Nacional.
Age of the Vines: More than 40 years old.
Soil: Shale
Grape Cultivation and Winemaking: All grapes come from the property. The wines are vinified in granite lagares with foot treading and temperature control.
Ageing: Bottled in 2018 after two years of aging in 650 liter oak drums. All wines are bottled on the property.
Tasting Notes: Color: Deep ruby red center, very bright. Nose: Medium intensity, with aromas of red fruits - strawberries and spices. Mouth: Balanced, integrated alcohol, showing firm but well-integrated tannins. Generous fruit reflecting perfect ripeness. Average finish + persistence.
Serving: The wine was bottled without being filtered, in the future, with more years of aging in the bottle, it is subject to a deposit. It must be decanted before serving. Although still young for a vintage, it is ready to be consumed.
