Grande Reserva was our first outstanding wine, fruit of the 1996 harvest. It was also the first wine of the Douro with this designation. Later it was adopted by the Douro region as the designation for its best wines. Besides the 1996 we also bottled it in 2000, 2001, 2003, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2014 and finally in 2016, 10 wines in 20 years. The 2016 harvest was an exceptional one in the Douro! We were fortunate to declare two different Vintage Ports, but also to bottle again the Grande Reserva.
Grape Varieties: Touriga Nacional (60%), Tinta Roriz (30%) and Touriga Franca (10%).
Winemaker's Notes: Concentrated in colour, with very complex aromatic profile where we can find red and black fruits, like blackberries and dark cherries. Lovely acidity on the palate, serious but round with charming tannins. The aftertaste is long and toasty. Cellaring this wine is a good decision, but we shouldn’t lose the opportunity to enjoy it right now, especially if you appreciate a serious Douro Red.
Vinification: Hand-picked and transported to the winery in small baskets. Alcoholic fermentation In stainless steel with maceration at 24-26ºC.
Ageing: Aged for 14 months in new French oak.
Suggestion: It can be enjoyed with your favourite red meat or cheeses and can cellaring for up to 10 years. May be included in vegetarian diet.
