The grapes that give rise to this wine are a “field blend” of old vines planted on terraces on the banks of the Douro, combined with grapes from the highest vineyards of Quinta dos Castelares, in Freixo de Espada à Cinta, in the Douro Superior, at an altitude between 500-600 meters. With the aim of obtaining the balance necessary for a wine that we want full-bodied, but with an elegant profile. Shale soils, terraced vineyards with a dominant North-East orientation.
Grape Varieties : Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional.
Tasting Notes: The Reserva Red from Quinta dos Castelares is a wine with a 'Freixenista' character from the Upper Douro. It results from grapes from low-lying vineyards, on the banks of the Douro, with old vines at about 600m, of the Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz varieties. This combination gave rise to this wine that stands out for the intensity of the aromas of ripe black fruits. Aging for 12 months in French and American oak barrels gave it balance and elegance.
Vinification: Manual harvest. Total destemming followed by crushing. The grapes are fermented by variety and by parcel of vine, with the aim of making the selection that allows a better final result. Fermentation in stainless steel vats of small capacity, at a temperature of 24ºC. Controlled and gentle maceration, with the aim of obtaining concentrated, aromatic and elegant wines.
Ageing: 12 months in French (2/3) and American (1/3) oak barrels.
Gastronomy: Try it with intense meat or cheese dishes.
Oenology: Casa Agrícola Manuel Joaquim Caldeira
