This Rosé is produced from the grape variety Tinta Negra. The Tinta Negra grape variety is part of the ancient vineyards of the Madeira islands, and is still the basis for the wines that made the island famous. Outside the Madeira Islands it is a rare grape variety that can only be found in regions where the sea is close by, earning another name such as Molar in the Colares region or Saborinho in the Azores region. However, it should not be confused with Negra Mole from the Algarve, being a distinct grape variety. Its role in the past seems to have been to "color" white wines and give them a certain golden appearance appreciated at the time. Here, we test the potential of this variety in Rosé.
Grape Varieties: Tinta Negra (aka Molar, Saborinho).
Tasting Note: Open ruby-pink color. Intense nose, notes of fresh crushed strawberry, some vegetable. Fresh attack, crisp, present acidity, with excellent salinity. Great persistence.
Vinification: The grapes were hand picked, transported in 35kg boxes and selected in a selection table. Destemming without crushing followed by pressing. Decantation after 24 hours and fermentation in stainless steel at 14-16ºC. Aged on lees for 6 months.
Gastronomy: Fresh rosé, elegant and saline like few others. Ideal partner for fish dishes, seafood and salads. It has volume and structure for white meat dishes. Perfect for Indian, Thai and sushi food.
Winemaker: António Maçanita
