Grape Varieties: 100% Boal
Tasting Notes: Deep amber colour with greenish nuances. In the aroma it has notes of rum, brandy, varnish, toast of wood (smoked wood), molasses, caramel, chocolate, tea and roasted almonds. In the mouth it is a full bodied wine, perfectly structured, distinct, complex, exuberant and highly concentrated. This Boal 1986 presents a magnificent complex with a long and elegant finish, with notes of dried fruits, spices, tobacco, black tea and balsam. Acidity and sweetness meticulously balanced.
Vinification and Ageing: This Frasqueira, with the seal of H.M.Borges, was gently aged in the arms of the city of Funchal’s sub-tropical climate, for over 30 years in a centenary oak cask, part of the Borges company. This wine in the medium sweet style, from the 1986 Boal vintage, is the result of the meticulous winemaking of Jorge Borges Gonçalves and Ivo Couto, made even more special by the casks acquired by the company and by the strategic position of the H.M.Borges facilities. The grapes, grown in the “Latada” (Pérgola) system and harvested by hand, were then carefully selected, destemmed and fermented without skin maceration.
