At Quinta de Ventozelo, every grape variety has a history. Syrah is all about surprise – revealing an unexpected personality for a variety that is not indigenous to the Douro region. To ripen its structure and enhance its fruity exuberance, we left it to rest in wood barrels for a year. The result is this memorable Syrah Oak Matured.
Grape Varieties: Syrah
Tasting Notes: This Syrah reveals surprising purity, with the typical aromatic descriptors of this variety very marked. Special emphasis on expressive fruit, in particular, currants and blackberries. This reappears on the palate, combined with hints of pepper. Extremely round, shows good acidity, finishing long and balanced.
Vinification: After careful selection of Syrah grapes, vinification was carried out in lagares, after cold pre-fermentation maceration.
Ageing: 12 months in French oak barrels.
Gastronomy: Pairs very well with some meat dishes, such as duck rice, appetizers or vegetarian dishes with mushrooms. Best consumed at a temperature of 16º–18ºC.
